01

Low-power wearable sensing stack

A wearable-class sensing product that had to collect a reliable signal, last on a battery, and disappear into a consumer application — without treating firmware, radio and cloud as afterthoughts.

Challenge

A founder-led team needed a production-intent path for a connected wellness device: sensing, low-power firmware, wireless sync, a customer application, and a backend that could accept devices over time.

Engineering problem

The engineering problem was not “an app plus a board.” It was a closed-loop system: analog front-end quality, mechanical integration, firmware that could be updated, a radio strategy that would survive retail environments, and data that had to remain coherent as the product iterated.

Architecture

  1. 01

Custom electronics with a sensing front-end and power architecture sized for daily wear

  2. 02

Embedded firmware for acquisition, buffering, power states and secure update

  3. 03

Short-range wireless to a mobile application, with a defined retry and pairing model

  4. 04

Cloud API for identity, device records, time-series ingest and application backends

  5. 05

Mobile application as the human interface — not a thin wrapper around raw packets

  6. 06

Validation plan covering signal quality, battery, RF behaviour and update failure modes

Process

AXIS stations Discover through Validate, with Industrialize prepared as manufacturing partners enter. Prototypes were used to settle sensing and power before cosmetic refinement.

Outcome type

A vertically integrated architecture spanning device, firmware, application and cloud, with a documented path toward manufacturing and field updates. Not a claim of a shipped consumer brand.
