LTE store-and-forward on brownout
A monitoring system for equipment in unforgiving environments: sensors that stay honest, a network that stays up, and a platform operators will actually trust at 6 a.m.
Hardware / Embedded / IoT / Cloud / Web
Challenge
An established operator needed visibility into distributed equipment where cellular, power quality and physical access could not be assumed. The work had to respect existing plant practice, not replace it with a dashboard fantasy.
Engineering problem
Industrial monitoring fails when the edge device is naïve, the backhaul is treated as infinite, or the cloud model cannot explain missing data. The problem was an end-to-end integrity chain: sense, store-and-forward, transport, decode, alert, and audit.
Architecture
- 01
Ruggedized sensing nodes with local buffering and brownout-aware power design
- 02
Firmware with deterministic sampling, diagnostics and remote configuration
- 03
LTE / fallback connectivity with explicit offline behaviour
- 04
Ingest pipeline, device twin/state, and a schema that can evolve without breaking history
- 05
Operator console with alarm logic, roles and an evidence trail for events
- 06
Provisioning, keying and field-replacement procedures as part of the system, not a PDF later

Process
Heavy Discover and Architect against site constraints, then Prototype on the actual radio and power envelope before scaling the cloud model.
Outcome type
A platform architecture in which the device, the network behaviour and the operator software are one design. Suitable as a pattern for plants, yards and distributed assets — presented here as a representative capability, not a named rollout.
